(JR) Japan Rail Pass App
Designed to embody the ease and convenience of Japan's high-speed trains
Context
What is a JR Pass?
A rail pass for overseas visitors for all primary forms of travel in Japan.
The Problem
The pass is difficult to use due to the numerous rules for the various regions and tickets, and physical ticket makes it easy to misplace.

Interview & User Research Process
The user interview process:
-
2 Rounds of Interviews ( in-person/remote)
-
Interviews helped narrow our target audience to single mums or mums who were the family heads, that were planning a trip to Japan with their family/children.

User Journey
The interviews aided in the refinement of the user journeys and the new flow that could assist users in purchasing and using the JR Pass with ease.
As-is v.s. To-be Journey
The simplified version of both the original journey and the to-be journey is shown here. The journey also includes user insights.

The JR Pass App: From Wireframe to Prototype
Through research and testing, we designed: The JR Pass App, a one-stop app that simplifies the purchase, reservation, and navigation of the JR Pass. The app walks the user through each stage with simple directions and flow.

Wireframes & Usability Tests

We started out with a lo-fi prototype and wireframing to flesh out main flow ideas, while also testing it with users remotely through zoom. After that, we moved on to a more high-fidelity prototype (as shown above) to work out nuances in copy write and imagery, and give the prototype a sense of realism. We also tested this portion with users, which helped us work out these issues going through 4 versions of edits.
User Interface
The light and calming concept is intended to help mothers who are under a lot of stress feel less stressed while using the app.
